The season is kicking off at Northstar at Tahoe, and Victoria Allen is one of our EA interns completing her internationally recognised ski instructor course there. Check out her latest update:

I am in the middle of the PSIA level 1 certification exam and... I don't know. This is simultaneously fun and terrifying. It's a three day exam that looks at how well each of us skis, presents demos, analyzes potential students for teaching purposes, and lastly how well we teach.
I think the examiners are really wanting each of us to pass, but with the nastiest timing possible, I got the tickle of an oncoming cold a few days before the exam. The last day of training, Emily (the EA rep and one of our amazing trainers here at Northstar) took one look at me and told me to cut my day short so I could try to rest and keep up my strength for the exam. Right. So I slept the entire afternoon and ignored the increasing head stuffiness and chest-wracking cough coming on. Crappy timing is an understatement. I thought I might have to pull out of the exam before it even started, but I kept going and I'm going to make it to the end.

This 3-week internship has been pretty amazing. We finally got snow and some incredibly cold temps. Unfortunately, it's warmed up and all that snow (all 18-inches of new stuff from one night of snowfall) is starting to melt. My skis hate it, but my toes are kind of okay with it. In a group meeting before hitting the slopes, we gathered around one of the fire-places in the village and everyone immediately put their feet as close to the fire as possible. The steam coming off our shoes looked like we were about to catch fire – but oh sweet warmth!

I think my favorite part of this course so far is the quality of training we've had. My group has had three trainers so far and each has been amazing. We learned so many different tricks from each one and had so much fun! I think Emily had us laughing for two days straight.

Marcel gave us a lot of insight into Northstar specifically and prepped us for what to expect working here. And I think Mike in one day with just a few bits of advice gave everyone the equivalent of 10 years worth of skiing skills.

Ok, maybe that last one is an exaggeration, but these guys are world class!

Now, if only I can kick this cold and pass this exam! And then I can look forward to my new job as an instructor!
