Course Run Down By Week

Calgary Orientation

If you’re taking part in our pre orientation you’ll be met right off the plane by your EA Program Rep. From here you’ll transfer to your hotel in Calgary. Evening 1 kicks off with a meal out with other course participants at a local restaurant. The next day we explore the city. Today there’ll also be time to organise any Canadian essentials. We then head into the famous Canadian Rocky mountains and Banff via the Trans-Canada Highway to your accommodation in Lake Louise.

Days 1-3: Lake Louise Orientation

Arrive to Lake Louise and settle into West Louise Lodge. Evening 1 we’ll run you through the program outline including goals and training objectives. Day 2 we’ll get you oriented with the Lake Louise area. You’ll meet your Lake Louise Ski & Board School Trainers and also collect your Passes. Today we’ll also hold gear information sessions and there’ll be an opportunity to purchase any required equipment. Evening 2 we hold a fun social event. Day 3 will be a full day on the snow including a mountain tour and a chance to get your legs back into action.

Weeks 1-3: Training Begins

Your first three trainings weeks will be focused around developing your personal ski or board skills and getting you prepared for the level 1 exam module. You’ll learn about the Core Competencies and Stance, Balance, Rotation and Edging. You’ll complete a range of indoor sessions including ‘Leadership Training’ and the ‘Children in Snowsports’. Video Analysis will be a chance to identify areas for personal improvement and give you drills and tactics for improvement. Training will also cover level 1 teaching progressions. And your trainer will also take advantage of the snow conditions and get your into some more challenging terrain including some ‘Lake Louise Powder’! Plus there will be plenty of social functions!

Week 4: Exam and Party!

The CSIA/CASI Level One Exam. This is basically an extension of the training days! The course is fun, informative and a chance to develop your teaching and personal skiing or riding skills even further. The course conductors roll is to help you reach the level one standard. You’ll get individual and group feedback throughout the three (snowboard) or four days (ski). And by the end of the course you hopefully be walking away with a pass result! Post exam there’ll be a presentation function!

Week 5: Chill Week

Week 5 is a chance to kick back and relax! You’ll be able to get out on the snow and consolidate what you’ve learnt or just let things go. This week there’ll also be an opportunity for you to shadow some Ski & Board School lessons. You may also choose to visit other nearby resorts or head down to Calgary for some time away from the white stuff! You’ll find this week off is well needed and well deserved and will set you up for the second part of the course.
