3 Week Instructor Course – Northstar at Tahoe

Overview
EA has been operating in the Lake Tahoe basin since 2001 and our training base at Northstar is one of the fastest growing resorts in the world. Our 3 Week Ski Instructor Course and 3 Week Snowboard Instructor Courses are based here and are an intensive great value way to get your Level 1 Certification, improve your skills and have a lot of fun!
Northstar is one of our favourite resorts as the Lake Tahoe basin gets slammed with snow – 360 inches a year, and sunshine on over 300 days of the year! Northstar is also home to one of the few Burton Academy’s and Learn To Ride Centre’s.
Course Run Down By Week
San Francisco Orientation
If you’re taking part in our arrival orientation you’ll be met right off the plane by your EA Program Rep. From here you’ll transfer to your hotel in Fisherman’s Wharf. Evening 1 kicks off with a meal out with other course participants at famous Bubba Gump’s. The next day we explore San Francisco with a city tour including tram ride and visit to Union Square. Today there’ll also be time to organise any American essentials. On day 3 we transfer to Lake Tahoe via the Golden Gate bridge to your accommodation at Kings Beach Tahoe.
Days 1-3: Tahoe Orientation
Arrive to Lake Tahoe and settle into Kingswood Condominiums. Evening 1 we’ll run you through the program outline including goals and training objectives. Day 2 we’ll get you up to Northstar for a Village Orientation. You’ll meet key Northstar Ski & Board School representatives and trainers and also collect your Passes. Today we’ll also hold gear information sessions and there’ll be an opportunity to purchase any required equipment. Evening 2 you’ll get an introduction from the PSIA/AASI West representatives and your membership card. Day 3 will be a full day on the snow including a mountain tour and a chance to get your legs back into action.
Days 4-10: Training Begins
Your first training days will be focused around developing your personal ski or board skills both on and off piste. You’ll learn about Stance and Balance and get an introduction to the Core Competencies. Training will cover level 1-3 teaching progressions. Indoor sessions will include ‘Leadership Training’ and the ‘Forces in Skiing and Snowboarding’. Video Analysis will be a chance to identify areas for personal improvement. By the end of this training block you have an understanding of the fundamental skills and the level 1 course standards. On days off there’ll be an opportunity to practice and consolidate and cover off indoor course materials in study groups.
Days 11-17: Instructor Skills
During this training block you’ll continue to develop your personal ski or board skills. Your trainer will step up the tempo this week and get your into some more challenging terrain and hopefully some ‘Tahoe powder’. You will learn about rotation, edging and cover Core Competencies in more detail. Indoor sessions will include ‘Student Centered Teaching’, ‘Developing the Guest Experience’ and ‘Children in Skiing’. In your video analysis sessions you’ll cover drills and tactics for improvement. During your days off there’ll be an opportunity for you to shadow a Northstar Ski & Board School lesson and cover off indoor course materials in study groups including the pre exam E-Prep module. There will also be social functions so you can let your hair down!
Days 18-21: Exam and Party!
The PSIA/AASI Level One Exam is basically an extension of the training days! The course is fun, informative and a chance to develop your teaching and personal skiing or riding skills even further. The course conductors roll is to help you reach the level one standard. You’ll get individual and group feedback throughout the three days. And by the end of the course you hopefully be walking away with a pass result! Evening 20 is the last hooray with a final group function and presentation!
